How to write an introduction

By

I have been struggling with editing and writing my introduction for some time for one of my chapters. It should be the easiest part of the paper, I would think, but I am learning just how difficult it really is to make all your thoughts coherent and readable.

An introduction is probably the most important part of your research. It sets the tone and it will either draw people in or out. For those of us girlies who are trying to structure our introduction, here is a quick format to use:

  1. Importance
  2. Background
  3. Problem statement
  4. Research gap
    • Evidence
  5. Research gap
    • Evidence
  6. Local context
  7. Study objectives
  8. Paper aim

Beyond your introductory section, for each heading of your paper, remember to include: discussion plans, arguments to be made, points to cover, and tentative conclusions.

Happy writing…
